mailserver mx record

Postby hreemers » Sun May 31, 2009 1:37 pm

I'm setting up a mailserver (zimbra).
The setup is asking for a mx record in DNS.

How and where do I add a mx record in amahi server.

I cannot find bind in Amahi (normal /etc/bind)

I'm a bit of a newbie so :"Can you help me" ?

Thanks

MX needs to be set in the DNS server of a hosting provider, not your local DNS, otherwise it will only work on your local network. If that's what you want you can set the MX record to localhost.

whoa!

zimbra is ultra cool!

can you make it into a one-click app?

i can help you!

as for the mx record, that is for receiving email _directly_ i.e. the machine needs to have an SMTP server listening to everyone in the world at port 25. hmm, not for newbies.

i'm not sure what mechanisms zimbra uses or why it needs it. can it not fetch email via imap or pop?

i am definitely interested in zimbra as a one-click app. can you come by the IRC channel?
