Unable to see Vista Shares
Unable to see Vista Shares
I have 2 systems hung on the hetwork, 1 being XP and the other Vista. I can see the shares on the XP box but for the life of me, I can see the Vista system but not the shares. I even added everyone (read and browse) to the shares but they still do not show up. I am lost for now.
Re: Unable to see Vista Shares
Silly question, but have you renewed the IP configuration on the Vista machine?
Also, have you tried \\hda from in Explorer, also \\hda.yourdomain.com?
My guess is that it is something silly -- I have Vista working fine, but I set it up 6 months ago, and maybe there was some security thing I had to tell Vista!?

Re: Unable to see Vista Shares
Yes I did the IP thing . I had the router set to assign DHCP and disabled that so that the server provided both DNS and DHCP. I can see the server if I go to neighborhood networks on both the XP and Vista system. I can see the Vista system in Network from the server, but when I go and expand that to see the shares, get a blank. The systems are all on the same workgroup which is the same as the server. I have the firewall on Vista and XP turned off and letting my Antivirus package control that and both are setup the same in that regard. When I go to the XP system I am prompted for ID/password, but the Vista box to not do this. Still drawing a blank stare when I look in the mirror

I can't remember exactly what I did .. so a little more exploration ...
Take a look at The "Network and Sharing Center"
Is Network Discovery On?
Is File Sharing On?
Is Password Protected Sharing On?
(these are my settings that work)
