After I disable my onboard lan, rebooted to system. The new NIC is still set to eth1.

Other than the steps above, I also:

1. Change new NIC from eth1 to be eth0 in -Administration-Network control.

2. Delete the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1, and update the ifcfg-eth0 with the new NIC's MAC Address.

Then there is no conflict anymore! Gigbit speed!!

I tried the above steps, as much as I could find the files in Ubuntu 12.04, but it's still not working. My problem was a little different--I did the install over wifi, but want Amahi to run on eth0. Eth0 is not getting a random IP address and wlan0 is getting the 192.168.1.10 address. I also tried running the install script again with wlan0 off and the network on eth0. It didn't change anything.

How can I reset Amahi to use eth0 instead of wlan0?

Check /etc/network/interfaces and ensure it says eth0. There are several files that hold the eth0, so finding them may be difficult.

It might be worth a reinstall vs spending all your efforts hunting down all occurrences of wlan0. At least that way you would know it's right and will not fail.

sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces
Changed, wlan0 to eth0. Reboot. Seems to be working.
