did you get a message to get an IP address over DHCP during the adding of the amahi repository?
if not your network hardware may not be recognized in fedora.
if it did and you entered a static IP: run the install again and let it get a DHCP address. Amahi will reconfigure your network settings as you have set them up on the amahi.org site.

your HDA should have come up with a static ip address.

could you elaborate more what you are encountering problems with?

On the moment i have no internet acces, when i restart network starts with static ip adress
in a console: ping http://www.google.com
ping:unknown host http://www.google.com

traceroute http://www.google.com
temporary jamming in conversion(translated from dutch to english)
Cannot handle ` host` cmdline arg` http://www.google.com' on position 1 (argc1)
in ifconfig eth0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING...
rx packets 1433n error:0 ...
rx bites 1152533
interrupt:19 base adress 0×c020

did you pre-configure your HDA's network settings to match that of your network?

for example:

- if your router defaults to 192.168.1.*, you should have configured that for your hda in amahi.org
- if your router defaults to 192.168.0.*, you should have configured that for your hda in amahi.org
- ...

you get the idea.

if you ping you should only use the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name), without the protocol.
in your case that would be "ping www.google.com"
http is a protocol and ping uses the icmp protocol, so your error may be coming from that.

Hi guys,

I re-installed Fedora and Amahi. At the same time, I installed a new router between my dsl modem(which is in itself a wireless router but I have turned off both dhcp and wireless). With the new router(d-link 655) I set everything up as before...everything works with the install and Amahi downloads everything even after you go in to terminal mode and enter the command in the last page of the instructions.

When I re-boot(turn off dhcp now in d-link router), I get no internet with fedora and Amahi will not work for applications(other pages work).

My ip of the dsl modem is 192.168.1.2 and the ip of the d-link router is 192.168.0.1
You mention above to pre-configure the network settings of the HDA but I don't know how to do this. In the network settings, it states the ip is 192.168.1.1 which is incorrect but it only lets me change the last number.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
LIP

hi lip,
  • the settings should now be (with the new router in between) 192.168.0.* and .1 for the gateway. the HDA should be at 10 (unless you really want some other address).
  • you should delete the old profile and create a new one (with a new install code)
  • do NOT turn off dhcp servers UNTIL you know you have access to the internet in the HDA, as in the simple networking troubleshooting guide
  • once the HDA is operational (green light in amahi.org), then you can choose to disable dhcp in the router
