The reason why the systems "vanish" is because of the way the "Microsoft Computer Browser" stack works.

it would be nice if you could confirm that it's around the 12 minute mark mentioned in the link above.
You can also check the event log in Windows and search for error messages with the Computer Browser service.

That fixed it. Thanks alot. I've been pulling my hair out trying to fix it. Kept playing with the lmhost file & stuff.
