Unable to connect to apps

Postby damato300 » Mon Dec 08, 2008 6:10 pm

Ok I can connect to http://hda but if I try to go to one of my apps like http://wiki i get a page load error. If i am on the server I can connect to them fine. It is when I try to connect through a client PC. I am sure it is the settings in my router but I have no idea how to set it up. I am also having problems connecting to the shares folders. I really like this software but I am getting frustrated with getting it configured correctly. I have looked at wiki and FAQ for over a week now and I am no further along than when I set this system up.

Hope someone can help

Dan

Hi Dan,

Did you take a look at this item in the FAQ?

Does that help?

Yeah CPG i looked at that. I think my whole problem is my router configuration. I have a linksys router and I do not understand how to set it up to use the amahi as the DNS and DHCP server. All my devices have static IP's except for my phones and 1 printer, and inside each NIC configuration I put the DNS servers as what ISP sets them. Should I set the DNS in the NIC's to look for the amahi server? The thing is though I can get to the HDA page from a client If I type in http://hda or 192.168.1.125 it takes me to the HDA page, but if I type say http://gallery (yes i installed gallery2) or http://wiki I get an address not found. I can see everything if I am on the server I can edit Gallery 2 and Wiki from there just not from the clients.

Thanks
Dan

All you have to do, if you want to take advantage of all the DNS goodies that come with the Amahi home server, is turn off the DHCP server in the router.

The linksys routers should be easy. Check if this works for you.

Thanks to the awesome help from cpg he figured out what the problem was. I had all my computers setup with static IP's and my router was still set to for DHCP enabled. I set my computers for DHCP and set my router to DHCP disabled and all works fantastically!

Thanks cpg for all your help

I still can't this to work. When I first installed Amahi about 5 months ago, this didn't work and I tried to fix it, but failed.

The Amahi server is running DHCP and DNS. For example. if I type http://ajaxplorer/ in Firefox, I get http://www.ajaxplorer.info/ and in IE I get the generic can't connect to website page. (http://torrent/ yields http://www.torrent.com/ as another example). BUT if I type in http://ajaxplorer.section.9. it works fine.

When I do ipconfig /all on any of the Windows machines it gives me Amahi's IP for the DHCP and DNS servers. When I run nslookup and type in ajaxplorer it returns the server's IP.

Thoughts? I've tried what I could find on the forums and in the FAQ and have had no luck. I'm wondering if it's because I picked section.9 as a domain...

can you

Code: Select all

ping ajaxplorer
?

it could be due to the domain (the last part being a number), i suppose, though we have not seen issues like that before.

try

Code: Select all

hdactl-hup
to restart services ... that may help/

ping ajaxplorer
Ping request could not find host ajaxplorer. Please check the name and try again.

ping ajaxplorer.section.9

ping ajaxplorer.

ping ajaxplorer.section.9.

SSHed in and ran hdactl-hup, but it made no difference. This isn't that big of a deal, but thought some networking guru might have some insight. I'll probably putz around with it again, and if I figure it out I'll be sure to follow up here.

I installed F12 and Amahi 5 last night and have this exact same problem. Has anyone been able to resolve this?
