I read the debug logs and noticed the following error:

Aug  1 21:47:11 localhost nmbd[1662]: [2010/08/01 21:47:11,  0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:585(collect_all_workgroup_names_from_wins_server)
Aug  1 21:47:10 localhost nmbd[1662]:   Cannot find my workgroup WORKGROUP on subnet UNICAST_SUBNET.
Aug  1 21:47:10 localhost nmbd[1662]:   collect_all_workgroup_names_from_wins_server:

I did a "service smb restart" and then "service nmb restart".
That did fix the problem but gave me a new one.
Now i'm getting the following error:

Aug  1 21:48:17 localhost nmbd[20121]:   Unable to sync browse lists in this workgroup.
Aug  1 21:48:17 localhost nmbd[20121]:   Unable to find the Domain Master Browser name WORKGROUP<1b> for the workgroup WORKGROUP.
Aug  1 21:48:17 localhost nmbd[20121]:   find_domain_master_name_query_fail:
Aug  1 21:48:17 localhost nmbd[20121]: [2010/08/01 21:48:17,  0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:350(find_domain_master_name_query_fail)

Any ideas??

this is actually harmless, if noisy.

it's designed to play well in environments where there is already a master.

we ought to put it in the faq.
