public web pages- DHCP- and my pesky 2Wire modem

Postby mraroid » Tue May 04, 2010 7:58 am

I have a question re DHCP and displaying a web page to the outside world.

My only reason to bring up a Amahi is to put up a web page from home where I have a dynamic IP address. I moderate a yahoo users group. We pdf old documents. Many pdf files are over the files size for yahoo, and over the file size that can be attached to email (usually 10MB).

So I want to bring up a web page visible on the Internet where folks from this group (or anyone) can come and down load and up load files.

I have a DSL modem/router called a 2WIRE Gateway model # 2701HG-B. While I have not hit every page on the Internet when I search for "disable DHCP on 2WIRE", the ones I have found say it is impossible, or next to impossible.

Also, while a HDA sounds really, really cool, my plans are to only use Amahi for this one thing.

Sooooooo.... With the above two caveats in mind, can I leave DHCP on in my 2Wire? Can I bring up a web page with out disabling DHCP in my DSL modem/router?

You may want to check these pages on the wiki:

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Hosting_a_website

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Airport_express

The 2-wire can be configured like the Airport to work with Amahi.

Good Luck,

Pat
