I am trying to host an Alien vs Predator dedicated server on my Amahi box through virtualization. For virtualization I use VMWare Workstation with a copy of Windows XP Professional. The network is in bridged mode. When I run the dedicated server it runs fine, but I m not able to connect to it in any way (either passing the command 'connect <ip>' in game, or just searching for servers). I have forwarded all the necessary ports on my router.

Can this be something amahi is blocking, or is this something else?

Anyone got any ideas?

if i understand correctly you have vmware workstation running on fedora, and the vm is in bridged mode. it should get the IP from the HDA. is that the case? (sanity check)

amahi does not block anything (the firewall is turned off by default).

if the server in the VM is tcp, can you telnet (or netcat) to the corresponding port, from the HDA itself?

make sure vmware workstation is not blocking certain ports or anything (i have used VMware server on F12 - not the workstation). typically it should not be, when in bridged mode.

Yes, you understand that correctly. The virtual machine gets its static ip from the HDA.

When I use this command: it does connect, but when I use this command: it doesn't. Is this fine, or not?

Also VMware is not blocking ports.

When I looked at the server today, 2 people had connected and disconnected, so maybe the server can't be seen in my home network? I also just had the idea to try to connect using the command 'connect 192.168.1.17:27003' in game which did get me into the lobby, but when I search for lan dedicated servers there are no results.

Edit: When I go to canyouseeme.org it says that I the port is opened, so that shouldn't be the problem too.

what on port 27003?

looks like you forwarded that port properly to the HDA

Port 27003 is the port the server is listening on.

When I did forward the port properly, and other players can connect to my server then there isn't a problem at all, I think. The only strange thing is that I can only connect to my server through the local ip and not through the external ip or through the server list (on which I can't see it).
