A few networking issues

Postby netninja » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:35 pm

Hi I just finished installing Amahi.
I have a few networking questions.

1) Why did sever create a windows workgroup called home?

2) Why is the server changing the hostname on my macbook? When I disconnect from the network I get my old hostname back.

Now let me take a minute to tell you what I have.
Router -- Dual Band AirPort Extreme with 2 HD attached
Server with Amahi on it -- [Ether]
MacBook -- 10.5.8 -- [Ether] [WiFi 2.5 & 5Ghz]
Sharp Laptop -- WinXP Pro -- [Ether]
Desktop -- WinXP media center -- [Ether]
iPod touch -- [WiFi]
PSP -- [WiFi]

The DHCP seams to be working on the LAN and the WiFI. I was able to reach the internet with ever thing I tried. Had to use the AirPort work around on the AMahi site. My Window & Mac machines can access both the Amahi shares and the 2 HDs on the AirPort. Even my iPod touch works on the network.

The issues are the 2 above so far. HDA creating a new windows workgroup and the hostname change. What do I need to change on the HDA so the workgroup will be the same as the existing one?

On my Mac, if it is not connected to the HDA the hostname is L.local If I connect it to the HDA it changes to H102.dn.com. I'm thinking it should say L.dn.com. How to I fix this? Is this a common problem? This doesn't happen if I connect using WiFi only when I connect using the LAN.

Other then this the network works great, both the LAN and the Wifi.

Thank you for any help you can give.
