Sharing to Mac problems

Postby jtupnsmoke » Thu Feb 18, 2010 6:58 pm

I am having problems getting my mac to see my hda. Sometimes it will show up in Finder and other times it won't. DNS is working, I have the HDA giving my Mac a static IP address. Everything seems to be working great, except my mac finding the HDA. Whenever it does work, if my Mac goes to sleep and I wake it up, the icon is there for the HDA, but it isn't connected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how often?

i use a mac daily and it seems to be mostly there. It rarely seems to be missing.

you can also connect with apple-k or Go -> Connect to server the put a server address of

Code: Select all

smb://hda/
i disabled most mac services and ipv6, because mac networking functions tend to confused mac os x.
there are many other mac users in the community. perhaps someone can add how to debug this?

This happens whenever the Mac is woke up. It is very unpredictable. I usually have to try disabling, enabling, and messing with other network settings to get it to connect. The weird thing is that most of the time "hda" shows up under my shared devices in Finder, but when I click on it , it just keeps saying "connecting" but it never connects. And the same thing happens if i try doing an apple+k and connecting like this

Code: Select all

smb://myusername@192.168.1.10
.

:o

i never sleep the system running mac os x. just shut it down and power it on.
that is strange, though honextly i am not really impressed with mac networking.
gets confused too easily.

i have seen shares shown in duplicate, disappearing occasionally, taking 10 seconds to see the server files, stalling the machine while opening a share or a large file ...

what version is this?
i hear they redid the finder in snow leopard (about time), but i have not tried it.

It is a new iMac with Snow Leopard. I put it to sleep because the manual says only shut down if you won't be using it for a couple of days. What doesn't make sense is that it shows up in Finder most of the time, but when you click on it, it just keeps saying "connecting" and won't do anything else.
