downside to disabling DNS and DHCP server, using dynamic IP?
downside to disabling DNS and DHCP server, using dynamic IP?
Title pretty much says it all. I would very much like a greatly simplifed system as an option.
--production HDA : 2.8GHz core-2 duo, Asus P5BV-M mobo, 2GB RAM, Rosewill R901-P case, 2x iStarUSA BPU-340SATA hot-swap bays, Areca 1220 8-drive raid controller, 5 Seagate ST315005N1A1AS 1.5 TB drives
Re: downside to disabling DNS and DHCP server, using dynamic
Can you elaborate what you are asking? If it is to the subject line, then look here.
http://www.amahi.org/faq#is-dhcp-server-required
We strive to provide a universal system for all to use. As you can see, some capability of the server is lost by not using the HDA DHCP/DNS.
If you are looking for a magic button to press, there is none. We do have a feature request to make this simpler, but it will be a while before it's implemented. We are a small all volunteer team and do our best to meet the needs of users. However our current focus/priority is getting Amahi ready for Fedora 16.
We hope you can understand.
