Airport Extreme and firmware 7.5.2

Postby desertblizzard » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:30 pm

For what it's worth, I upgraded my AE base station firmware from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2 and spent the following morning troubleshooting my network for a few hours. I could not figure out why it was that the HDA could not issue a DHCP address to my computers however after reverting back to 7.4.2 everything started working correctly again. Apparently DHCP isn't being broadcasted.

I have never seen this before. With 7.5.2 installed, my computers would assign itself and IP address (169.254.xxx.xxx). The PS3, connected to the network via Ethernet by way of the AE switch had no problem connecting to the HDA and the HDA had access to the internet and was fine. The wireless clients were what had the problem. They would, as I mentioned already, self assigned an IP address. None-the-less, I was able to still ping the HDA and SSH to it, wirelessly, from the machine with a self signed 169 address, even though the HDA lived on a 10.0.1 network.

Never seen anything like that before. Could not get it to work with the 7.5.2 and rather than waste the rest of my new years eve trying to figure it out I reverted to 7.4.2 and everything was happy again.

Hope this helps someone out there. If anyone knows what the problem is, please share. There are some features in 7.5.2 that I think will be beneficial to the household.

Cheers and happy new year!

Apparently it is something that's known:

(but it never hurts to mention it :) )
