DNS/DHCP customization

Postby rgmhtt » Mon Oct 18, 2010 9:27 am

I did some of this long ago and still have one system running with some of this customization (klovia.htt-consult.com)...

Domain name of home.htt-consult.com; I am seeing home.htt.

Point to my own DNS server that owns htt-consult.com and it will delegate the home subdomain to my server, homebase.home.htt-consult.com. I have a number of secondaries for htt-consult.com out on the net...

Use a /28 mask for the IPv4 addresses. Well maybe a /27. With the net NOT starting with a x.x.x.1 address. I once made changes to a few scripts for all this, and sent them in. Any recommendation on how to get these changes in place and not get them overwritten with the next update?

Hello,

If this is a feature request/change, please file a bug. That is the best way to track and assign resources. If you already did so, please remind us what the number is so we can take a look.

Lets see. Just looking at some old emails. I will have to figure out how to get into the bug system again...

Feature #319] Support for CIDR addressing and other DHCP features
Bug #336] (New) Malformed SOA, MX, and NS records
Feature #337] (New) Restrict DNS A records to DHCP lease addresses and provide for static entries
Bug #339] (New) Use CNAME for aliases
Feature #340] (New) Improve DNS security by using views
Feature #350] (New) IPv6 support in DNS

I will have to see which of these may be implement plus what else might have been submitted.

For 340, I even included INCLUDEs and changes to the script to invoke them.

Yep, they are there. http://bugs.amahi.org and your amahi.org credentials will get ya in. This something that you might wanna mention to cpg. He would be the one to make any changes.

Well I want to add a bug and just spent 15 min trying to figure out how to get to new issue and can't find my way there :(

It takes two reboots after editing the Netmask variable before it takes affect.

Yes, sometimes the bug tracker is not very intuitive. Sign in and select Projects in the top left. Then from there choose platform followed by new issue.

Well I started looking at /usr/bin/hdactl and found a 'new' variable:

$netmask_size

Neat, at least a start I thought. I changed it from 24 to 28 and still dhcpd.conf was wrong, I figured out that all this variable does is fix the netmask size on the acl trusted for /etc/named.conf, and does nothing for dhcpd. So I had to edit the two locations of $dyn_lo and $dyn_hi to get a better dhcpd range. At least I am using the first /28 in the /24 block, so I don't also have to fiddle with the net value!

I went through all of this in my earlier bug reports.
