SOLVED:Amahi Time Machine full? How do I delete old backups?

Postby diggityDawg » Sat Feb 01, 2014 9:41 pm

Well, my Amahi Time Machine worked (THANKS Carlos!!) for a few weeks, and when it filled up, it stopped working. I thought it was supposed to automatically delete old backups when it filled up? Now I'm getting this error:

Code: Select all

"The backup disk needs 151.69 GB for the backup but only 32.86 GB are available. Select a larger backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding files."
Can I just delete the old backups? I can't tell where they are - I've looked on the share that is selected, but it just has one file of unknown size, and I assume it's some proprietary format? How does one go about deleting old backups manually? I think I'm just gonna stick with online backup to CrashPlan, but I would like to free up the space taken by the old Time Machine backups.

Thanks!

Eddie

Anyone know how to delete old TimeMachine backups? I've now turned off TimeMachine but I still can't delete old backups... Thanks for your help!

Have you tried google?

I presume this are what you are talking about. I don't know anything about this app, so presumed it's not special for Amahi.

Yes, I have been Googling for days on this and nothing I've found has worked for me. When I enter Time Machine, there are no backups showing, yet my home share is still showing 300gb missing, so it must be somewhere... I guess this isn't widely used or understood by Amahi users.

Interesting. Have you looked in the home share to see what is there? Is it possible there are hidden files taking up the space?

Yeah, I've looked in the home share, and I do believe the files are hidden, just not sure where. Carlos got this working for me, but I'm not entirely sure what he did or where he located the files. He volunteered his time to help me, and it took longer than either of us expected, so I didn't want to ask him for help in removing the feature, but I just don't know where to look for these files that are taking up space...

Understand.

This almost smells like a bug. Not sure if it's the way it's used by Amahi or with the actual software.

I figured out I needed to disable the disk in Time Machine, even though I had turned off Time Machine. Once I disabled it I was able to go in on the HDA and delete the files from that directory, and that freed up the space for me. Closed

Awesome. Is this something worth adding to the wiki? If so, would you mind adding it please?
