I've just purcased and installed the Chrasplan app.
But when I try to run the "CrashPlanDesktop" from terminal, as the wiki advices,
I get the Crashplan Splash screen for 2-3sec. then nothing more happens.

what else do I have to to get crashplan working?

Did you follow the wiki guidance? You have to be on the HDA desktop using terminal. If you don't have that capability, the wiki provides instructions how to do it via SSH. The key here is CrashPlan is a desktop app, so you have to initially run it from a desktop environment.

yes, I followed the wiki.

what I did, was:
- Install the one click app, from the Amahi interface
- Log on to my HDA, with tightVCN, from my Win7 laptop
- Start terminal in my HDA
- Type in the command stated in the wiki

Then the Crashplan tryed to start, and the Crashplan splashscreen showed for2-3 sec, and disappered
Then nothing....

There was nothing in the terminal window either.

Recommend you check the app install log in /var/log folder for errors.

I looked in the log file, but everything looks ok:

CrashPlan has been installed and the Service has been started automatically.

Important directories:
Installation:
/usr/local/crashplan
Logs:
/usr/local/crashplan/log
Default archive location:
/var/hda/files/crashplan

Yes does look ok. Did you run CrashPlanDesktop as your normal user and not root? I don't think root access is needed.

I've run it as root.
I just now did a test as user, whitout root. And then I get a message that I dont have permissions for this operation

I've allso rebooted the HDA after the install, and the result is still the same.


(By the way...
is there any way I can access the HDA with VNC after a reboot, without first logging in as a local user?
my HDA is located in an other building, so it's a bit frustrating to have to run back and forward everytime I need a restart, or after a power failure etc...)

Is this Fedora or Ubuntu? If you have VNC installed, there should be no reason to log in to the HDA itself. The VNC session should be logged in as the first admin user of your HDA.

I presume you are using Amahi VNC on the HDA, correct?

I'm running Fedora 14
and I'm guessing that I'm using Fedoras remote desktop.
I activated this in setings in Fedora.
how to use Amahi VNC on the HDA?

and Im using tight VNC on a Win 7 computer to access it..

Amahi VNC is a pay app, but it works well. I have used it with Fedora and Ubuntu.
