Thanks for all the advice guys! I will definitely look into the crashplan stuff. However at the moment, I think this will do me just fine. For the moment I won't be doing anything over 1.5 TB max and I think it'll take a couple years for the sparsebundle files to inflate that big anyways. And I'm not all that desparately worried, I just would like to do the max I can. My computer also backs up to a usb Western Digital mywhateversomething so I think I'm pretty safe.

I think when I put more drives in my box I'll make a partition for the TM stuff and use Greyhole for the rest of it. This is just a side project I've started because I started getting creative ideas for my ancient Dell I had collecting dust. At the moment, its running Amahi Express CD headless wonderfully but it only has a 250GB IDE (old I know) drive so I need to add a sata card and do some more work. Work in progress...

over the weekend I upgrade (re-installed) my Amahi install on Ubuntu. it went a lot smoother then I expected! however now I find that my purchased Amahi Time Machine isn't working. I checked the wiki and noticed that Ubuntu is in "red" so the question is how long until I can backup my mac's?

Good to hear all went well. Sorry to say we don't have a time frame as to when TimeMachine will be ready for Ubuntu. We are still working apps and some bugs.

As soon as we have it ready, we will post in Facebook and the forums. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Can anybody provide me with the path for mounting the time machine share. I'm experimenting with using it over vpn. I generally use smb://user@192.168.x.xx/sharename but I don't know the name for the one time machine uses

Does this work in the plug edition?

I'm thinking of using a guruplug or sheevaplug with Amahi and an external drive plugged in.

Cheaper than a NAS media server and more fun.

Possibly.

I do want to backup a mac - hence my question.

Has anyone installed Amahi Timemachine on a plug computer edition of Amahi?

The app is only available on Fedora 14 or greater and Ubuntu eventually. There is no ARM support currently with the app, so won't work on any Plug device.

I'm wondering if the app is now supposed to work under Ubuntu. I've installed it, but Amahi (the AFP server) won't actually show up on my Macs. I've run a couple tests, and uninstalling and subsequently re-installing Netatalk forces the server to show up. I can't explain why, but it just works. The thing that's even more odd though is that if i reboot the server after doing this, Amahi disappears again. Please note that HDA is still visible on the network with all the standard SMB shares.

Should be working on Ubuntu. Might wanna check the forums to see if anyone else had issues. Also there may be some help in the wiki.

Is this Ubuntu 12.10 client? Amahi does not run on Ubuntu 12.10, only 12.04.1. Just want to ensure there is no confusion.
