Tethering with Amahi.

Postby delisleland » Thu Jul 04, 2013 12:06 pm

I currently live in an area with NO internet access options besides 3g/4g hot spots and dial up. I use my phone as a usb tethered connection. I have been using an xserve g5 and sharing the tethered connection with 'Internet Sharing'. This makes the xserve handle the dhcp/dns.

Will I be able to do this with amahi? I'd really like the ease of flexability that amahi offers, but I need something that will let me share eth0 and use klink0 (what the tethering app uses for an inbound/outbound communication device).

Thanks for the help in advance.

I am currently sharing the internet over the eth0 with just ubuntu 12.04... I just want to make sure that it will work when I install amahi. Thanks!

As long as you Amahi sees eth0 and there is connectivity, it should work.

eth0 is the device that is being shared with the rest of the network. it would be using klink0 for internet connectivity.

am I allowed to use the regular network manager for this?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Amahi won't install or work correctly unless it's eth0. It may be possible to change that, but not sure what or how.

You can try renaming it using network manager. Also check out the guidance in the wiki about changing the network interface.
