I've had my Amahi/Ubuntu machine up and running for a few weeks now, and I'm slowly getting everything configured. Then last night I noticed my /home partition had 16GB free, but only 4kb available. I couldn't figure out why that was, so I rebooted the machine. When I went to log back in, it looks like it's going to the desktop, then goes right back to the login. I don't get an error, and I've tried a wrong password, which DOES give me an error. It's as if I am authenticated, but then logged back out immediately. Has anyone seen this before? Any idea how I can get past this?
Thanks!

Re: Login stopped working?
Can you SSH into the box? That would allow you to explore around.
Most folks who have problems login are using the wrong credentials or the CAPS Lock is engaged. I am sure you have already thought about those issues.

Re: Login stopped working?
Yes, I've thought about that. That's why I mentioned that I can get an "incorrect password" error, but when I put the correct password in, it doesn't give me an error, just sends me back to the login screen.
I can SSH into the box, but I don't have a clue as to what I could do to resolve this... What do I look for? What would I try to fix? I did get into the auth.log and found this pattern when I try to login:
Does that tell you anything? I don't understand what much of that says, but it looks like there are some things going on preventing me from getting to my desktop...?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Login stopped working?
Does not offer much useful info to me. I presume you have tried a reboot. Not sure where to go from here.
Since you cannot access the box remotely or via the dashboard, it's difficult to create an alternate user. If this is Desktop, can you access the box and log in as guest? If so, you can then possibly become root and add a new user.

Re: Login stopped working?
I can access the box remotely through SSH. That's how I got the log file...
I found out that my .Xsession-errors file in /home was 312GB and I had almost no space left in /home. Not sure if this was the problem, but it seems to me if it tries to create some temp files when you login and there's no space left in /home (like, 4kb), then it might just fail and go right back to login??
Following some advice on Ubuntu forums I put a bash script in that deletes that file when it gets too big, and I deleted the current one that was taking up so much space.
When I get home from work I will reboot again and try to login. Hopefully it will work this time.

Re: Login stopped working?
Yea if you are out of space, then that could be the issue. Check for big log files. Sorry I misunderstood and thought you could not get in.
If you want to add a new user, you can do it manually. Then see if that works as well.
