I moved from Fedora 14 to to Ubuntu 12.04 with great sucess. Ubuntu is telling me I have alot of updates (200+). Can I udate safely? What is the recommended updating policy for Ubuntu?

Can you provide a little more detail? I'm new to both Amahi and to Ubuntu, although I've played with both for a bit. There are numerous warnings in the documentation to install on a "plain" instance of Ubuntu and that 'aggressive' updating is not supported. I generally assume that developers release updates & patches for a reason.
Is the best approach to do a "plain vanilla" install of Ubuntu, and then apply updates after Amahi is successfully installed and running?

Installation of updates after OS and Amahi is typical. Apps and such will work fine. Very little need for concern for something to break. It's extremely rare.

As of this coming Friday, 3/29, I'm getting a hand-me-down computer that I plan to reformat for Amahi... just to make sure I'm reading your reply correctly Bigfoot...
Once I install Ubuntu 12.04.1, I should wait until after Amahi is installed to do any system updates? I'm fairly new to Ubuntu, but if I remember from some previous playtime with it, I'm given the option to update to the current version, 12.10, correct?
Is that what you're running, or are we suppose to stay with the LTS version?

Yes, install the OS without updates, then Amahi. Once all is working you can update to the latest LTS version of packages.

You must stay with the LTS version. Amahi does not support 12.10 or newer. The latest on LTS is 12.04.2.

Bigfoot... with the updates... did you change it back to auto, or did you keep it at manual from the Amahi install?

Not sure if I understand your question. Amahi is supposed to turn OS updates off.

They can be turned back on though, right? You say you keep your Ubuntu updated to current... do you just manually check every couple of weeks/months, or did you turn back on the OS updates and let the system take care of itself?
