I agree, but unsure what could be the issue. We have seen where some installs are corrupt, but nothing in the logs. Machines behave for the most part, but them certain things do not work.
Might consider doing an install in a VM and seeing if you can duplicate the behavior. Just a thought.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
So I'm doing some transfers to my box and I think I have a better idea of the issue after watching more carefully.
When the file is copied to the landing zone, it has the correct ownership.
It's only once greyhole moves the file and creates the POINTER which has root root.
So, copy to landing zone:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 username users [filename]
AFTER
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root [filename] --> [pointer to gh directory]
If the pointers have a root/root ownership, things like minidlna cannot do anything with them.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Ensure all your folders in /var/hda/files have proper ownership. You can chmod them recursively and that should fix it.

Yeah, I've done that several times - all the folders and files have the correct ownership...and the pointer is created as root:root for some reason.Ensure all your folders in /var/hda/files have proper ownership. You can chmod them recursively and that should fix it.
Just tried again for shits and giggles...didn't work
Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Is this a new install or has it been a while? I hate to say it, but it may require a reinstall. There were some issues with permissions a while back that were fixed. Unfortunately, they required reinstall as they could not be patched.
Can't put my finger on it, but your initial install just seems like it's not complete. Maybe try a Greyhole upgrade? Since that is the problem, maybe the newest version will correct it. There is guidance in the wiki on how to upgrade.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Yeah, I really don't want to re install. Really a huge pain at this point.
I'd try updating greyhole, but the wiki seems to have instructions for updating in fedora only.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Go to the Greyhole website and download the latest DEB package. Then to install it, you do:
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i packagename
