Install Ubuntu by USB ?
Install Ubuntu by USB ?
I have the N40L Microserver which does not have an optical drive. I can see that Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 can be installed via USB - how would this affect the Amahi installation, or is it not possible to do it that way ?
Re: Install Ubuntu by USB ?
We do not currently support USB install. However if you can get it to work and document, that would be greatly appreciated.
Amahi is installed via a repo, so as long as the USB installs the same environment as the CD, you should not have any issues.

Ace, I'll give it a go. It seems straightforward enough.....
I'll let you know if it is do-able

Re: Install Ubuntu by USB ?
It's certainly do-able as I've managed to do it (had a false start due to some networking issues which I finally resolved - got it right second time around).
I'll try to document it later, but it's not too dissimilar to what is there in the instructions already, just adds an extra section from the Ubuntu site itself, creating a bootable USB stick

Re: Install Ubuntu by USB ?
Good to hear. Making a separate wiki page for Ubuntu is probably best. Need to be simple for the less advanced users.

I'd love to write up some instructions but I cannot request a user account - just goes to a blank page

Re: Install Ubuntu by USB ?
I had a pretty trouble free installation via USB stick last night.
You need any utility to create a USB boot drive like linux live usb creator, the iso for desktop or server and that's about it. Use the utility to create your install setup on your usb drive (at least 2GB required). If you are using a sandisk usb drive, make sure the U3 launcher is not present because it will probably screw things up.
After ubuntu installation is done follow the normal amahai installation instructions.
It was much much simpler than my first amahi installation from usb using fedora 12.

Re: Install Ubuntu by USB ?
Good to hear. We would appreciate it if someone could add some guidance to the wiki for doing USB install. We have it for Fedora 14, but not Ubuntu.

Re: Install Ubuntu by USB ?
I can put some notes in from my experience if you'd like. I just need access and let me know the proper page(s) to update.
