Squeezeboxserver won't start after installation

Postby bt107 » Sat Sep 08, 2012 1:22 pm

Just got a new HP Proliant Microserver and installed Ubuntu Server with Amahi. So far so good. Got VNC working with no problems. I would like to get Logitech Media Server running but no luck so far. It appears to install but the service won't start. When I type

Code: Select all

sudo service squeezeboxserver start (or stop)
I get a service not found message. It also doesn't appear on the servers tab in the dashboard. I realize it's still beta but I'd really like to get it running if at all possible. Below is text from the /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log file:

Took a stab at trying to get it working tonight. Bad news is that it does not seem to be cooperating. I have done some research and found little help with getting it working with Ubuntu so far.

We will keep looking for a solution. Once we have it working, look for an announcement in Facebook and here in the forums.

I tried some workarounds I found on the web but couldn't get it working. Apparently it doesn't like to cooperate with Ubuntu 12.04 very well. Right now I've got the Windows version running on an old XP laptop with a mapped drive to the server. Works OK but cumbersome. It's a great little app so I'll watch for updates.

Thanks again!

I finally got Logitech Media Server 7.7.2 working on Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 64 bit. It's not the Amahi app but the one from the Slimdevices repository here:

Code: Select all

deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
I went down a couple of rabbit holes before I found the solution. I found some web posts that suggested adding these packages:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libjson-xs-perl libev-perl libyaml-libyaml-perl sudo apt-get install libgd-gd2-perl
These didn't work for me but may be required. I don't know. I found another post suggesting that LMS won't run on 64 bit systems without a group of 32 bit packages installed:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-multiarch
This installs about 250 packages. When this finished I rebooted the server and restarted logitechmediaserver. I had also read that it now uses port 9001 instead of 9000 so on a Win7 client I entered http://<server ip>:9001. It came right up and is working great.
This isn't intended to be a definitive how-to but is just my experience. Maybe someone can take this and expand on it some.

Things like this should be posted clearly on the install page...I wouldn't have upgraded from fedora 14 to ubuntu 12 and amahi 6 if it was clear that the logitech server app was not working. It's not even listed as such on the apps page. So now I am stuck with a server that is less useful to me than before "upgrading" (which I did because fedora is no longer supported by the amahi team).

Sorry to hear. It is listed as in Alpha for Ubuntu 12.04, but maybe that is not clear enough. We are trying to make things better. Any suggestions?

Hope to get it working, but it is not the easiest app to work with. Of course you could always follow the guidance in a previous post from bt107 for a manual install. It would at least give you what you need.

Update...It seems like the app does install - and that my squeezebox can communicate with it. The issue is that I can't access the web interface on port 9000. I can post any relevant logs if they help with troubleshooting.

Please check the /var/log/amahi-app-install.log for errors. I will have to test again tonight and see if I can find anything.
