VNC - getting a clean desktop

Postby excrucio » Thu Aug 02, 2012 1:39 am

Hi

I bought and installed the VNC server one-click app. It seems to be woriking, but when i login i get a rather blank desktop, see the attached print screen. As you see all i get is the Amahi Live Help shortcut. Does it fail to load something?

I know about the resloution issue. Scrolling does not help :)

I have seen this happen once on my machine. Recommend you try uninstalling, reboot, and then reinstall to see if that helps.

Also please check amahi-app-installer.log in the /var/log folder for errors.

This happened to me last night after I purchased the one click app as well. I thought it could be related to the fact that I was current logged into the machine (as I use it for an HTPC hooked up to a TV). Once I restarted I was stuck in a completely headless installation of Ubuntu with no X. Is it possible to control the active VNC connection without going headless? Is it possible to open new virtual desktops on top of that functionality? like both?

Not sure I understand your requirement. This app is not specific to a headless HDA. I have been using in with Ubuntu Desktop.

I wonder if the problem relates to you already being logged into the HDA, then trying to login again as the same user.

Can you test something for us? Log out of the HDA and then try accessing it via VNC. If the result is the same, then that indicates its not that problem.

I have made a change to VNC. Please uninstall, reboot, and reinstall. I hope this may fix the issues we have been having lately.
