Is there an idiots guide to installing Amahi DLNA using Ubuntu? I bought it, I clicked Install. I don't see it. I went to the Amahi DLNA install page but its not helping. What are the Ubuntu install instructions?
Are the install instructions for fedora? should i do something different?

I think Windows Home Server is my next step.

Glad you made up your mind so easily.
Did you do any homework or research before trying?

Re: Amahi DLNA install
Was very frustrated last night. Xbox sees the server but no files. Most of the information that I've found has been Amahi Fedora. I don't know how to translate to Ubuntu.
I did get the server running, sharing files and installed a second hard drive, so i did do a some research.

simply enough, Linux is Linux.
Most of the Fedora Amahi wiki articles about configuration should work just fine in your Ubuntu Amahi.
If you're not certain, or need some guidance, google the issue or ask in the forums. It's more than likely the configuration questions have been answered already.

Re: Amahi DLNA install
That is correct, most of the Fedora guidance will work with Ubuntu with some minor changes. For DLNA, it is quite different as the files are not named the same.
We have not had a chance to update it yet. Hoping someone in the community can lend a hand.

Re: Amahi DLNA install
Sorry -- what is the actual problem?
The Xbox is notoriously bad at streaming a number of formats, especially non-microsoft bless formats.
It looks like your Xbox can see the server, which means the app is up and running. I think you have to install things like a DivX module or something in the Xbox to be able to watch content from those files.
Otherwise, can you provide details of what types of files?
Also, can you try with other clients?
For instance the PS3 is friendlier at playing a number of formats. Some TVs have a built-in DLNA client as well (Sony, Samsung, ...), and finally there are a ton of small media players (from $65 to $110) that can play a lot of formats out of the box. The WD TV Live is one of them I use personally. Great little device for the price. The new versions also have Hulu, Netflix apps, etc.

Xbox has issues with some encodes, and simply will not see them without a third party prog (such as Tversity), which performs an "on the fly" recode.
