Yes, it could be. It is crucial that you follow the install instructions at http://docs.amahi.org and do not deviate. When you install you should use the defaults for the most part.

I believe the only way to correct this is reinstall Ubuntu and then Amahi.

worked just fine.. completely wiped ubuntu again. reinstalled again from scratch .. works just fine.
