I'm having an issue where every new file I transfer via samba (using windows snyc toy) are root:root. So in order for them to be picked up by minidlna i have to ssh in and chown stuff.
Permissions are totally fine, it's just an ownership issue for me.
Permissions for /var/hda/files
Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
You are having the same issue I am, but mine is happening with SabNZB/Sickbeard
I have not tried to copy files over samba yet. I will try that later tonight and see what happens

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
May be a bug. I am not having that issue so far.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Did jiml's revised script ever get posted to the wiki? I tried searching and couldn't find it.I will add it to the wikki. I've also amended it so it is faster by testing the file perms and only changing those files that need changing.
As for the why 666 as there are no files that require the execute perms in the files/hda directory I just don't bother to set it.
666 -rw-rw-rw- 1 jiml jiml 0 Sep 12 17:59 test # File are rw for everbody and not set as executable
775 -rwxrwxr-x 1 jiml jiml 0 Sep 12 17:59 test # Files are rw only for user and group, ro for everybody else. Set as executable.
I borked the permissions for all folders/files in Music by copying from a USB drive in file manager (I know, but I forgot) and I'd like to put them the way they are supposed to be.
Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
File permissions for /var/hda/files is owned by firstadminuser:users and read/write by all for the most part.
Of course replace firstadminuser with the user you created on install of the OS.
Code: Select all
sudo chown -R firstadminuser:users /var/hda/files
Code: Select all
sudo chmod -R 775 /var/hda/files

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Seems as if there is something amiss with permissions on your HDA. I have not heard of anyone, myself included, having problems with Ubuntu recently.
Have you checked ownership permissions of all folders in /var/hda/files to include that directory? Is there any other info you can provide, logs, etc that might help us diagnose?

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
What logs can help diagnose this problem?
Created directories under /var/hda/files/drives/xxxx have the correct ownership, but files copied to those directories don't.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
Sounds like it could be an install issue. I had problems once and a reinstall was needed. You can check /var/log directory for log files. There are many there that might help, i.e. syslog and others.

Re: Permissions for /var/hda/files
I didn't see anything odd in the logs.
A reinstall would be unfortunate at this point. It's almost impossible to reinstall without having to totally re-upload my backups to crashplan (it never quite works to initialize and diff my old backup files) each time. I just re-started this after switching from redhat to ubuntu and I don't really want to start again with reinstalling for a third time due to this file permissions error. Frustrating.
