VM Amahi 7.1 - minidlna --> out of memory

Postby quesst » Wed Jan 01, 2014 7:07 am

Hello

I'm trying to setup Amahi 7: An architecture overview:
______
Host: Xubuntu 12.04
Virtualization Engine: Virtualbox 4.2.10

In the Virtualbox I have 2 setups. Of course, they never run at the same time.
  • 1. VM: OS Ubuntu (64bit), Installed Xubutu 12.04 --> currently smoothly running system
  • 2. VM: OS Fedora (64bit), Installed Fedora 19 Amahi 7 (Express Installation) --> hopefully my future smoothly running system, currently giving me the problem below
______

Problem with DLNA:
When creating the files.db process gets killed as soon as files.db reaches ~5.7 MB with the following out-of-memory message:

Code: Select all

...(minidlnad) total-vm:9010660kb, anon-rss:4710264kB, file-rss:44kB
Assigning more memory to VM did not help - same result with other figures in the message and the file is still ~5.7 MB (of course I deleted the file from the first try before running second one). This problem never existed on my 1. VM - any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Might try deleting the files.db and restarting minidlna. It should recreate it. Sounds like it may have gotten corrupted.

Hi bigfoot

Thanks for the reply. After I noticed the problem the first time, I (i) deleted the files.db, (ii) assigned more memory to the VM and then (iii) restarted the whole VM in order to take effect. The problem remained.

How much memory is assigned? How about the hard drive size? Not sure what else would cause the issue. Have to checked the internet?

I have assigned 5 GB RAM and 8 GB drive size. I checked on the internet on such errors. Most of the time there is a memory leak suspected - not sure though if that applies to this case as it worked in previous versions... But don't bother. I think I will wait for the Amahi 8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as I use other software on amahi which does not provide enough cosole support to configure it properly (and there is no app yet). Reminds me of asking you if you could provide a choice on the Express Installation CD for either a headed or a headless system.

Thanks

The drive size might have been too small. We recommend 20GB to be safe and allow for growth due to updates and such.

As for Amahi 8, not sure if it will be Ubuntu or Fedora yet. I don't anticipate an Express CD for Ubuntu as we have tried in the past with no success.

We only have 1 Ubuntu developer, so the next release will depend on his availability. Amahi 7 on Fedora 19 is likely to be our primary version for a while.

If we do begin work on Ubuntu, we will announce it in the forums and Facebook as normal.
