So I'm getting really close to a new host PC to use as my VM hypervisor box, within which I will be running Amahi as a VM.
I'm stuck on decisions...
will have a M5a97 Asus mobo in it with 16GB of RAM initially (32GB soon after), plenty of drives and even 3 NICS.
I'm at a loss as to whether I should go for
1) Athlon II 620e (2.6Ghz x4, 45watts) ($89)
OR
2) Phenom II 1045T (2.7Ghz x6 95watts) ($99)
And note that the CPU is a temporary holdover until the next line of 8-core AMDs come out.
Anyone wanna weight in? opinions?!
another VM Host setup - opinions?!

Re: another VM Host setup - opinions?!
since it is temporary, it does make it difficult......
i would still go with the extra cores and slightly better speed

Re: another VM Host setup - opinions?!
Yep went with the x6.
Anyone have any opinions on doing VMWare or Proxmox with the following rig?....
Phenom x6 2.7GHZ CPU
32GB RAM
7TB of HDD space (4-6 HDDs + 1x hypervisor OS drive)
I can't decide which hypervisor to use!

Re: another VM Host setup - opinions?!
well, free VMWare is limited to 4 cores.
to me, that makes the decision......

Yep. I personally like the features and functionality of Proxmox. It works quite well for my requirements.

Except oddly enough you can do one core, with 6 threads. I'm doing it with ESXi within Workstation. I don't get it.well, free VMWare is limited to 4 cores.

Might just do Proxmox then.
