Hey There!
Just reporting in...
I've got Amahi for Ubuntu running on a VM. I had success with the Desktop 32bit version of Ubuntu 12.04. System did hang on "Install Code looks good." After a reboot, the installation completed.
The Host OS is Mac OSX Lion. I used VirtualBox with a 20GB disk and 1GB of RAM.
I haven't had the opportunity to get anything up and running, But I plan on installing Wordpress, Drupal and Twitter bootstrap and check accessing multiple websites.

Re: Amahi-Ubuntu on VM
Good to hear. There should be a few apps available. We need folks to thoroughly test things and report any bugs in the Amahi bug tracker.

Your virtualization base is also not going to affect the install very much.
It does help to try and make the IP static at your router if possible, so as to avoid confusing the IP of the HDA once it's running.

Re: Amahi-Ubuntu on VM
I was planning on doing this sooner or later, but a RAID failure crashed my main server.
I now have four separate rescued Wordpress instances being served up from the Ubuntu Amahi on my VM. Each is associated with its own MySQL database that was restored from a dump.
I would consider this a successful test of apache2, phpmyadmin , the manual web-app creation in the amahi dashboard, and hda-create script on the Ubuntu platform.
Only difference is the command line instruction to restart the apache server. I had to substitute httpd with apache2. FYI: restarting apache from the GUI works, but you have to refresh the page to get the see the status.
