Can Not Login to Shares from Windows 7

I just finished an install of the Amahi server on Fedora 12. Everything seems to work great from my Vista laptop - I can access the HDA and the file shares through windows explorer. I added an account/network share for my Father on the Amahi server. He is able to login to the HDA web interface but can not access the network shares through windows explorer (it keeps asking for his password). I have verified that the password is accurate. He is using a new HP laptop running Windows 7; also running McAfee security center 9.15. Any help is appreciated.

hmm ... windows 7 started well, but it's giving us lots of trouble ...

try:

Code: Select all

\\hda.home.com
(assuming home.com is the dns domain you chose for your amahi home network)

can you confirm that after using it with the full url for a while, you can simply use \\hda ?

At the moment I can't confirm that. After sitting idle for a while, I can no longer access the share from the Windows 7 laptop...A message is displayed which states "you do not have access to this drive." - After successfully accessing the share I changed the user permissions. I'm going to reboot and see if anything changes.

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 Premium and having no issues with the shares. I can access them via \\hda. I have my workgroup set and everything to include printer share works perfectly.

If there is anything I can do to assist, please let me know.

I'm somewhat at a loss right now. The Windows 7 laptop can not access any of the shares either via \\hda or \\hda.home.com - Win7 keeps asking for username/password but does not grant access. However, the win 7 machine can access the Amahi dashboard with no problem. My Vista machine has no trouble accessing the shares. Regarding your comment on workgroups - does the "workgroup" setting need to be adjusted on the machines?

Sorry to hear you are not having any luck with Windows 7. I have set my workgroup on all machines to match the workgroup set in the hda-->setup-->shares-->settings tab. There is a workgroup set to home by default. Whatever this is set to is what I set my machine workgroups to match.

Hope this helps clarify.

I don't believe this is a Windows 7 issue, as I am able to view the shares from the win7 laptop by using my own log-in credentials. So, this must be a user account issue. Any thoughts??

OK, I was able to duplicate the problem and subsequently correct the issue. There seems to be a bug in the software when creating new users on the system. I searched the forums and found a similar post as well.

The problem was the username - YOU MUST NOT USE ANY CAPITAL LETTERS - I was the first user (installer) of the system and my username does have a capital letter, however, all subsequent usernames must be in lower case. This corrects the issue...all of my users are now able to access all shares on the HDA.

I hope this helps the developers...keep up the great work guys!
