SOLVED: Can't write to shares

Postby cybercowboy » Thu Oct 15, 2015 12:22 pm

Odd problem, both locally (using the mount_shares_locally script) and over the network I suddenly can't write to my samba shares, even as root.
No recent changes that I can recall, under /mnt/samba/ all my shares have bjames:users ownership with 660 permissions.

If I create a new share (testing) within that testing share I can make new files/directories but any of my existing (backup, books, docs, home movies, movies, music, pictures, TV) I'm unable to put any new files or folders.

When you create new shares or folders, you may need to restart the mount_shares_locally script. Also recommend you restart Samba as well and see if that resolves the problem.

The permissions for the shares should be 775 at a minimum. For the /mnt/samba/share, the permissions are different. Can't remember what they are, but you can view the mount_shares_locally script to see.

Not sure what else to suggest at this point. Maybe check the troubleshooting guidance in the wiki for shares.

I found deleting the share from the HDA dashboard, and then recreating it with the same name, pointed at the same location seems to have fixed the error. Not sure what happened, but all seems good now. Thanks for the quick reply though.

That is odd. Glad you sorted it out. Will mark this one as solved.
