I recently installed Amahi 7, on fedora 19. Love it. Set up the file shares, was able to connect with both linux and windows clients, but on windows the initial connection was super slow, like 45-60 seconds. Aftert eh connection everything was quick, and transfers were quick. I changed a few settings in the smb.conf file, to no avail. The big change happened when I added "hda" to my /etc/hosts file, so that all samba connections would resolve the name fast. So my /etc/hosts file now has
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4 hda
in it(I added the bolded part). Just a tip for anyone else who might be having issues with a slow initial connection using a windows client.
