"Private Internet Access-VPN" and Transmission

Postby kaspr007 » Tue Jan 06, 2015 1:57 pm

I just installed the Transmission app on my HDA. I was under the impression that Transmission was able to run PIA's VPN, but I can't seem to figure this one out.

Does anyone have experience setting up a VPN service for the HDA version of Transmission?

Thanks,
Kaspr

I can try to help, but what is PIA's VPN? You can install the Amahi OpenVPN application to be able to securely access your HDA from outside the network.

I have seen the Amahi OpenVPN. If I understand it correctly it allows you to be on any network, connect to your own hda and use your hda's ip address. What I would like to do is be on my hda's network and use PIA's vpn to use their ip address. Specifically I just want to have all of my Transmission torrents run through PIA's vpn.

PIA also provides a specific SOCKS5 Proxy for use with torrents. I'm not sure what this is, but I know it routes all my torrents through the Netherlands.

Is it possible to do this with Transmission? I have seen that there is a beta of utorrent for Amahi. I currently use PIA's SOCKS5 proxy with utorrent on my windows machine.

Honestly I could not tell you if it's possible. Recommend you search the internet for a solution using OpenVPN. If you can find one, it should work with Amahi.

As for uTorrent, it's not solid in my opinion, but if you want to test it please PM me your amahi.org username.
