Changing Directory Size

Postby beans » Thu Jul 24, 2014 2:31 pm

First post. :D

Glad to be here. Switched over from WHS version.1

I have many questions, but just 1 in this post.

I installed Transmission.
My /torrent folder is something like 45 but the drive has 2 tbs.

1. So why is it so small?
2.How does I change it?
3.Are all my system created folders so small?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on how you allocated space on the drive. The shares are on a partition, as is /home and possibly a few others.

My thought is the / partition is not very big, thus the shares don't have the space you expect.

The best thing is to mount a separate partition or drive for them, which would be the /var/hda/files directory.

Using mostly usb drives. All are formatted and clean so each has a single partition of between 1-3 tbs. So the space is there.

/home has 1.9 tb

So this why the the /var/hda/files/torrents has only 44.2 gb.

Check the size of / partition. That is where the shares are located. The /home is not where shares are located, so having it for 1.9TB is a huge waste.

Well I certainly will reduce /home. I do want to maximize the file space. Trying to get it all fixed before I transfer any files.

As I am moving form WHS should I use greyhole? I know it is beta, but how close to WHS is it and it is stable enough for "production"?

Greyhole is stable. There are updates frequently, so its actively maintained by the author. I would recommend using it.

I do and works great for me.

This might help as for setting partition sizes.

Good to hear. I will get the app.

UPDATE - How do I get the app without being a Beta tester?

The partition article requires one to reinstall Fedora is that correct?

UPDATE - Will the apps I purchased and installed be available to me, if I reinstall?

Probably so. I will say it's best to do it right the first time though. Otherwise you won't be happy with it.

All apps purchased are yours for life.

As for Greyhole. You don't need the app. It's a manual install as documented in the wiki.
