I too am I have the same issue (win 8.1)

I have ownership of files
Samba is configured correctly
I can ssh and cp files to shares
I can ACCESS \\Hda\"shares"

Oddly though... I am not prompted for credentials, when I try to copy something via windows explores I simply get "permission is needed for this action"

Thoughts?

Check out the shares troubleshooting page in the Amahi wiki.

was the first place I looked. Again... ownership, access and linux permissions are all good. I simply am not being prompted for credentials when trying to copy files via explorer. Thus getting a permission is needed message. Net use shows no open connections.

Could it be a firewall issue? Did you check the Windows Credentials area to see if anything is saved? Seems like I recall something about this in the past. Not sure if it's documented in the wiki or here.

I will post a link if I can find it.

EDIT: Not sure if this will help.

oddly enough... win 8.1 was not prompting me for credentials, so, I just added credentials to credential manager and we are all set.

That is odd, but glad to hear it's working now.
