Hi,
Sorry if this or something similar has been asked before: I installed Amahi on Ubuntu (12.04 IIRC) a long time ago and, unfortunately, wasn't really able to spend much time with it. It runs mainly as a DHCP Server for a year now. I have the following problem now:
I can't access my shares from my other systems in the net. When trying to connect network drives with my personal laptop (running Windows 7) the Windows Explorer simply crashes (yes, it crashes reproducibly every time). My work notebook with a completely different setup (Windows 7 Enterprise) can't connect either. It doesn't crash but says something like "the server cannot perform the operation". Likewise the Macbook from my wife won't connect. Since I can't access the HDA from several machines I assume it must be a server related issue.
The file sharing did definately work when I first installed the server.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Breli

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
Recommend you check to see that you have all the OS updates. Also can you access anything if you were using the actual HDA as a desktop?
I presume it has been rebooted recently.

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
Hi,
I regularly install all updates. It is set to autoupdate basically. I am not sure I know what you mean, but I can access the HDA with my user just fine. I basically do the configuration "locally" since the server is still hooked to my KVM switch ...
I remember that I had some trouble with accessing the HDA remotely by simply using "HDA" as an address in the browser ... I always had to use the IP which however never bothered me that much ...
Cheers

Please try the network troubleshooter to see if it identifies any issues.

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
Hi,
Looks good. Thats the strange thing:
Progress
Step 1: Your HDA IP address is 192.168.1.10
Step 2: Your HDA domain name is home.de
Step 3: Your router IP address is 192.168.1.1
Step 4: Your HDA DNS server is working fine for local hostnames
Step 5: Your router is accessible from your HDA server.
Step 6: Your HDA can access the Internet
Step 7: Your HDA DNS server is working fine for external hostnames
Step 8: Your HDA Dashboard is accessible.
Step 9: Your HDA DNS server is used by your client computer.
Step 10: Your client computer has the correct domain name
Step 11: Your router is accessible from your client computer.
Step 12: You can access the internet on your client computer (ping test successful).
Step 13: Your HDA DNS server is working fine for external hostnames on your client computer.
Cheers

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
Check that all your clients are getting DHCP and DNS from the HDA. There could be a firewall causing issues as well on your clients.

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
Hi,
According to ipconfig everything is fine on my (main and only relevant) client. They get their info from the HDA. I am running the Windows Firewall and nothing else ... so I assume that this shouldn't be a problem.
Is it possible that the "home network group" setting might cause trouble? I didn't change anything so I assume that this isn't it. However, my main client can "see" the HDA in the network just fine. At least it shows up under "network" in the windows explorer. When I try to connect, it asks me for a password\account info (which is correct) ... but it crashes when I try to connect.
Can I reinstall Amahi? How painful\time consuming might that be? #
cheers

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
The Windows Firewall could be causing issues. The workgroup should not be an issue as I have not set mine and all works well.
A reinstall is not painful if you don't have much set up yet. Up to you.

Hi,
is it possible to reinstall only Amahi or do you recommend to swipe the whole machine and start from scratch?

Re: Cant access HDA\Ubuntu 12.04
You need to wipe the machine and restart from scratch. Otherwise there may be other underlying issues that remain. Fresh is best.
