File Sharing
When i go to drag something to a shared folder, it does not copy. It simply refuses. No messages or anything, it just won't copy. And when i go to put a movie in the movie folder, the status bar of the download completes, but the file is not there! It is very annoying and i cannot figure it out.
Re: File Sharing
FIrst thing to do is to check that you have setup your network correctly.
Run through the Network troubleshooting steps at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_Troubleshooting
If that doesn't help, please provide more details on your 'client' (is it XP, Mac, Linux, etc.)

Re: File Sharing
Well i am currently having problems getting amahi to become my DHCP and DNS server. Could this be affecting it? The client is mac. The wireless router is a time capsule, if that helps
Re: File Sharing
Yes -- for file sharing to work reliably (this means 100% reliability) then Amahi does need to be the DHCP/DNS server on your network.
What troubles are you having? Disabling DHCP on the Time Capsule should be easy. I don't have a time capsule, but a quick web search told me

If this doesn't make sense, maybe referring to Time Capsule documentation will help you turn off DHCP.put it (Time Capsule) into bridge mode to disable it's DHCP/NAT features

Having problems with connecting to the internet? Try the Network Troubleshooter.
Not sure what your Gateway IP? Head on over to the Find Your Gateway IP page to find out easily.

warning - disabling NAT may also disable the firewall and bridged mode may put your network straight on the internet without protection! this may not be what you want.a quick web search told meput it (Time Capsule) into bridge mode to disable it's DHCP/NAT features

Re: File Sharing
I have been putting it on bridge mode. The problem is that i then cannot access the internet.
Re: File Sharing
Sounds like Apple is trying to lock you into their way of doing things ...
You could manually configure the "clients" on your network have fixed IP addresses that use Amahi as the DNS server. That way you can leave the Time Capsule the way it is (but maybe an Apple expert has a better solution)

Re: File Sharing
Personally, I have realized that apple has not come to the real world on things yet. Basically not letting the user have the ability to have much control over the products (including OS X) and likes things their way.
Where that is understandable, things more than likely wont brake if its the way they are made, but that is not always a good thing for us that are more technically inclined.
Maybe in the future.
As to the DHCP problem, I have not found a good solution to this either from Apple.com nor through google. Might try some of the other apple forums or maybe even contacting them (just dont let them charge you for something as simple as asking how to turn off DHCP).
I will search some more tonight when I get home for some solutions.

Re: File Sharing
Thanks. My personal belief is that apple is trying to make it easier for the end-user. Which OSX is by far the easiest OS to use. But the lack of finer tuning, for the "Technically Inclined" is a problem. But i just love the look and constant speed of apple products, so thats why i use them. I am sure if i were to purchase a copy of OSX Server, everything would work fine because it's their product. Thats just classic apple.
