I would like to be able to upload stuff from my phone to my HDA over the internet. I don't like the idea of exposing my shares to the world. Is there any way of doing this? I was thinking of setting up an FTP server and using port forwarding.

You can do that or possibly use an app like AjaXplorer which is available as a phone app. Install the Amahi version first, then you should be able to log into the HDA using the phone version and upload/download files.

You can also do the same thing with a client like Dropbox, which can be installed on the HDA.

Thanks Bigfoot. Ill look into the ajaxexplorer. I prefer not to use dropbox because I don't trust it privacy wise.

I understand. You can also VPN into your HDA with your phone and move files as well. There are a few ways to do so depending on your phone OS. The wiki has some guidance.

I have a Droid 3 and there are all kinds of problems setting in openvpn. I plan to use VPN as soon as I get a new phone. I use a program called foldersync right now when Im at home. It syncs to my smb share. FTP and Webdav are the only ways I can think to have it sync with my home server over the internet. Other than that Amahi is awesome and does everything I could ask for.

Check out the Android apps we have documented in the wiki.

Some of the file managers also provide the same functionality you described.
