Cannot move files to any share but Documents
Cannot move files to any share but Documents
I have a strange problem. I Installed Fedora 10 and Amahi HDA. Aside from some minor issues (not apparently related to this one) all went well. I can see the default shares on both my Linux and Windows XP clients, but the only share I can move files to from those clients is \\hda\Docs. The rest return "permission denied". I went on the server and checked there using Nautilus (the Gnome file manager) and the permission settings are identical for all shares. In the HDA Manager on the web browser the settings are also identical except the Tags setting (docs vs. music). Any ideas?
Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents
This sort of erratic behavior is indicative of your "client" machines not getting DNS from the HDA.
Do your client machines have the HDA set as their DNS server?
If not set them to (or just have them setup to get their IPconfig through DHCP from the Amahi server -- with DHCP turned off on your home router).
Hopefully this is the problem!?

no such luck...any other thoughts?
Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents
What sort of client machine do you have?
If Windows it could be the system is mapping them with incorrect credentials.
From a command line on Windows type:
try accessing again.
If this doesn't work try coming to the IRC channel (Freenode #amahi) for an interactive debugging session - this is an odd problem

Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents
I have a simular problem.
I can acces all my shares for reading.
I can copy files to all my shares exept the share music.
Each time I try to put a file on it it says, acces denied check if the harddrive is full or write protected.
The share is vissable and writable for everyone when i check in hda.
I use windows XP.

Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents
Does it prompt for a user/pass login when going to the folders?
Make sure you used the correct user/pass.
Also make sure that that user has the rights to said shared folder.

Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents
is this in fedora 10?
if so, it may be an instance of the first user problem. see:

Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents - SOLVED
I created a temporary user, deleted the first user, then recreated it. Problem solved.
After that I deleted the temporary user (since you cannot login as root in an X-Session I created the temp user as a precaution)

Re: Cannot move files to any share but Documents
how about simply changing the password only?
how come you did not try that?
in the next version we will have an installer to make sure things like these are setup nicely from the get go.
sorry about the grief ... this sort of thing is "anti-amahi"
