How I increased my Samba copy speed

Hey guys,

My samba (copying from one locally mounted share to another) speed was about 30MB/s this morning, and I just found a little Windows 7 tip to get it up to 70-90mb/s.

I disabled Autotune and Remote Differential Compression. Haven't tried the others yet, but they may yield even greater speeds.

Note: Also make sure that you enable write-cache in the BIOS.

I tried https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Make_Samba_Go_Faster but didn't really see any noticeable improvement.

I hope this helps!

Would you mind adding this to the wiki? It would be a good start to user tips that others will benefit from in the future. We prefer the wiki for it's search ability compared to the forums.

Too much to read through here to find what you need :)

I changed the settings last night. We'll see how transfers change tonight after work. Gotta move some new downloads to the sorted shares.

I'll whack it in as soon as I get an account.

sgtfoo, hope it works alright for you!
