check with administrator etc . I can access mine fine as Im connected via network cable but his is wireless, any ideas as to what I can check

can his client ping hda, and access http://hda ?

if not, then perhaps there is something out there giving this client it's DHCP lease?

if it can, then there is something else going on.

let's assume the client is XP (if not, please correct!).

first make sure you are accessing it properly with:

Code: Select all

\\hda
in the address bar of the file browser.

notes:
  • the orientation of the backslashes is important - not //hda or http )
  • you should be using a *file browser* not the web browser
apologies if this is too basic for you.

other ideas: can you go to your network neighborhood?
can you see the amahi hda there?

if you want to set it up so that the laptop reconnects every time it's booted up do the following:
start windows explorer (Winkey+E)
click Tools > Map Network Drive
select a driveletter in the popup window (default here is Z: )
in the box next to "Folder:" type:

Code: Select all

\\hda\<sharename>
(e.g. \\hda\files)
make sure "Reconnect at logon" is checked
if needed configure a different username/pass
click Finish

Or if the user/pass combo is the same on the laptop & hda:
click Start > Run
type:

Code: Select all

cmd
then type:

Code: Select all

net use z: \\hda\files persistent:yes
echo '16i[q]sa[ln0=aln100%Pln100/snlbx]sbA0D2173656C7572206968616D41snlbxq' | dc
