So I have had a bit of an interesting journey with my HDA - I am now on my third rebuild due to DNS and other issues. Last night I got my MDADM RAID5 configured and synced up (3 x 2TB WD20EARS 5.9K drives). The initial RAID sync took under 5 hours which is quite good for any RAID array - even high end stuff like the Dell Equallogic and EMC Clariion gear that I work on for my day job, let alone a cheapo, low voltage Linux NAS.
I was able to get some baseline performance figures this morning copying files over a gigabit ethernet link from an OCZ Agility SSD to minimise the bottleneck on the client side and I am able to get around 100+MB/s! (with standard MTU size and no other optimisations) which is quite impressive indeed for a software RAID and probably a limitation of the crap Dlink gigabit ethernet switch I am using.
I have played around with large ZFS implementations but this is quite cool - Having said that I am yet to see how the long term reliability goes.
How is everyone seeing the long term stability of MDADM running with Amahi?
Finally got my MD RAID5 configured and its awesome

yup, I have 2 RAID1's in my box (1 2x750G 1 2x1TB). Built summer 2010. Running since then. I have greyhole disabled, I like to manage my storage myself.
