I know this subject has been posted a number of times, and I have been through each post probably at least twice, as well as the wiki page found here --> http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Shares_troubleshooting, but I cannot seem to figure out how to access my shares through windows 7. I have the required permissions through Amahi for my user, including the Advanced Setting checkbox being selected, and I can add/delete files from my Linux machine, so there are no problems there. When I open \\hda in windows explorer I can see all of my folders there, but when I try to open a folder Windows Security asks for a username and password. I am thinking that maybe my problem is that I am just not entering the correct information here. What exactly would I put in for my username and password? I'm hoping you guys can help me get this straightened out. Here is some info for my HDA.
At http://hda/setup --> Users my username is say: myuser
At http://hda/setup --> Shares --> Settings my Workgroup Name: is HOME
At https://www.amahi.org/users my home domain is say: mydomian.com
From what I read on the wiki mentioned above it seems as though I would enter MYDOMAIN\myuser for the user name and then enter my password, but this does not seem to work. I have also tried HOME\myuser which does not work either, and pretty much every other combination I could think of, all with no success. This is the only issue I have had so far, everything else I've done with Amahi has been really easy, so I am hoping this issue is really not as big of a problem as it has been so far. Thanks.
File shares access
Re: File shares access
Hello,
I use Windows 7 and have no issues logging in. You would use the hda user name and password when accessing shares. No reason to enter domain\user name. The domain is only needed on occasion for the \\hda to access shares.
Glad to hear everything else is working out well for you.

Re: File shares access
Thanks for the quick reply. I entered just my username and password, and was still unable to access my shares. Below is an image of what comes up. I VPN from my work computer, my domain here is LNX, so if I just enter my username is I still get LXN\myuser, which is why I was wondering about MYDOMAIN\myuser as the username. At home I have the same issue as well, except it inserts my pc's name instead of LNX. What am I missing? Thanks.
Re: File shares access
I would recommend trying to get it sorted on your local network first before trying to get VPN working.
With a Windows 7 machine on the local network, when you select an hda share, it should prompt you for your username/password on the hda. So if you were the one that initially installed your hda, choose the user name and password you FIRST created on the hda (not your username on the Windows machine).
I hope this helps. Come back and let us know how it worked.

Re: File shares access
Well I tried to access my shares from my local network using my Amahi username and password, with no success. I am the original and only user setup in Amahi. I am completely stumped as to why I cannot get access to my shares. If there are any other ideas I would sure appreciate hearing them. Thanks for the help thus far guys.

Re: File shares access
Yes, I have been through it a few times.
Re: File shares access
Do the workgroup names match between the client and HDA? The HDA defaults to HOME and Win 7 is WORKGROUP I believe.

Re: File shares access
I found that someone else had a similar sounding issue that was related to having upper-case characters in the user name (http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=964).
Have you created other user names on your system? If so, do they also have problems accessing the shares?
If you haven't, try creating another user (with a lower-case name) and see if that user can access the shares.

Re: File shares access
I checked the workgroup names and they do match, so no problems there. I then created a new user with all lowercase in the username, and that user was able to access the shares. So I guess now my question is what do I do with my original user? From looking at the users tab in the dashboard it doesn't look like I can delete or edit my original user. I know that when creating a new user if you select the admin checkbox there is no option to delete, but you can just uncheck it and delete the user, however that checkbox is greyed out on my original user so I can't uncheck it and delete the user. Is there another way to edit/delete my original user that I am not aware of?
