Moving/Editing Shares for External drive

Postby robrown » Tue Mar 31, 2009 10:12 pm

What I'm trying to do is have a small internal drive for amahi and that's it. Then, I'd use an external hard drive for all the media, etc. How can I setup the default share to use the external drive instead of the internal? Should I just create new shares and trash the old ones? Just looking for ideas....

Yes you can create a new share on a USB disk, but first you'll have to mount the disk before you can create a share on it (on the wiki you'll find a script - Diskmounter I think it's called).

However: I think it's a bad idea to use external USB storage. When you're going to use multiple disks you never know which one will be detected first, and configuring persistant binding in /etc/fstab with labels instead of hardlinks to disks is probably your only reliable option.
