Custom share for each user

Postby sergiogx » Thu Dec 30, 2010 5:04 pm

Hi,

I plan to have one folder for each user so they can store their personal data instead of leaving it public.

But I have the following problems

1) The default amahi configuration shows a user folder, but inside there are configuration files, also this folder is in /home/user, and this is a problem since I use greyhole and I have a diferent partition for files in /var/hda/files.

2) I created a share for each user folder to make them invisible, this worked great but then I created a share for each user called <User>Docs and changed their access, but now everyone can see all <User>Docs folders, they just can't access it. I wish each user could see only public and its own folder.

So, any ideas of how I can achieve this?

im n00bish but not that much ;)

Thanks

+1 for this.

I'd like Users to see only what they have persmission to see. For example, I might give a few select users access to a Public folder only. I don't want them to see all the other shares, even though they cannot gain access to them.

Was hoping adding the following to the samba config file under global might do the trick... but it didn't.

Code: Select all

hide unreadable = Yes hide unwriteable = Yes

+1

I was searching the forum for this option.
If the default user folder can be part of the Greyhole pool I will simply use the defaults, but if not....hiding custom made user shares for other users is an option I would like to see in Amahi

I have a folder that is hidden from all users and its working. No users can see this folder.

I just unchecked the visible option and this worked for me.

I am assuming you guys did the same?

Hidding from all working, yes, but hidding on a user basis not;
public - viewable to all, even guests
bobsPlansForWorldDomination - viewable by Bob only
TinasSuperGirlyJunk - viewable by Tina only
Music
Films
Videos
Photos - Viewable by logged on users only

When Tina logs on, Bob doesn't want her or any other users to see his bobsPlansForWorldDomination folder, that'd give the game away!
Likewise, Bob has no interest in SuperGirlyJunk, why should he have to see the folder.

This is the kind of structure I'm looking for. At the moment, I just hide the shares, and I've mapped them for each user on Windows. but when the mapping fails, and they go to \\hda they can't remap unless they know what the share is called.
