Adding Share Drive to VPN Page

Hey folks,

Just got my Amahi fired up this morning and experimenting with some of the apps.

One thing I am intrigued about is the VPN. Kind of cool that I can upload and download files from anywhere but I added a hard drive via USB. I did the SMB steps and it worked. I can access it via windows and linux.

But I want to see my harddrive on teh VPN page but all I see is docs, books, music, etc... How do I add mine?

Solved. After you log in you can create a new network thingy on teh right side of the page. I simply added a local share /var/hda/files.

Too easy.

HI,

I'm currently trying to access my files on my HDA via my ipsec VPN. At the moment i am able to connect my macbook to the VPN, but this is as far as it goes..... I can't see the HDA in finder or manage to connect to the HDA via its ip address?

Any ideas where i'm going wrong or if this topic has been raised already please let me know where.

Thanks!

Recommend you check out the IPsec VPN guidance in the wiki.

Hi,

I've had a look through the wiki and probably should of asked a couple of questions about that...... With the 'group name' is that like 'workgroup' on windows machines?

Also would diverting all traffic through the HDA help to show up my shares on my macbook when I'm connected to the VPN?

Sorry for the dumb questions!

No it's a secret and/or group name used by all clients that connect.

Once you VPN, you should have access to all HDA shares. For other machines in the network there may be additional configuration needed on the client or network machines.

Personally I find using openvpn App is simplier and works just as good with less fuss. I can access all my shares on my HDA without issues. If you are using a smart phone, you might want to use amahi-anywhere App.

Thanks for the tip - I've gone and installed OpenVPN & its saying I'm all connected. But when I try to connect to my HDA by typing in its ip address in my browser it just times out.
Also my HDA doesn't show up in finder like it does when I'm connected on the LAN.

Am I missing something here?

Some help would be great!

Try http://hda.domain.com and replace domain.com with the domain you chose.

As for files, use \\hda and if needed, add domain.com as well.

Also recommend you check out the OpenVPN Troubleshooting wiki page as well.
