Re: Transmission/torrents share permissions problems
Re: Transmission/torrents share permissions problems
ok i read that i need to stop Transmission how do i do this ? task manager ? that's if it's the same name in linux thank you
Re: Transmission/torrents share permissions problems
I think you can use the Amahi dashboard. Go to Settings->servers. If you click on Transmission, you turn it off (and restart it later).
Re: Transmission/torrents share permissions problems
easiest is to login using VNC and then follow the directions given here.hello iam trying to do this .. do i do this, on linux side or windows side or Amahi web interface...... thank youIf you are using System->Administration->Users and Groups, select Edit->Preferences and then un-select 'hide system users and groups'. That should cause all groups to show up in the list.
I don't use Transmission, but I assume you should see Transmission in the groups list. If so, double click on it in the list. This should bring up the group properties dialog for transmission. Click on the 'Group Users' tab and select the username for each person you want to be able to use transmission.
That's it.
I hope that helps. Let us know if you have problems.
or if you are familiar with the xterm you can use SSH and putty.exe to do this. But I wouldnt know how!

edit i have stopped Transmission .....
do i just ad admin as a group i dont want to break any thing
Transmission has Transmission ticked under groups tab
Re: Transmission/torrents share permissions problems
Select the 'Groups' tab.ok i've found 1 System->Administration->Users and Groups,
2 un-select 'hide system users and groups i see Transmission i double click it

Scroll down the list until you see 'Transmission'.
Double-click on Transmission. This should bring up a dialog box.
Select the 'Group Users' tab.
Scroll down that list to find the user name(s) that you want to allow to use transmission.
Click the check-box for each of those users. That should add them to the 'transmission' group.
I hope that helps.

Re: Transmission/torrents share permissions problems
I'm confused about what you are asking (perhaps we both are!).
The overall goal of this exercise is to allow normal hda users to run Transmission.
If you are unfamiliar with how permissions work in Linux, files (and applications) are 'owned' by a specific user and a specific group of users. If you are not logged in as that user, or are not a member of that group, you will not be allowed to execute that program (Transmission in this case).
Transmission is owned by the 'transmission' user and is a member of the 'transmission' group. To allow you (or other users) to run transmission, all we need to do is add your (or their) user names to the 'transmission' group.
So we are going to use the User Manager application to add your name to the 'transmission' group.
To do this:
1. Start the User Manager (System->Administration->Users and Groups)
2. Select 'Edit Preferences' from the menu and un-select 'hide system users and groups'.
3. Find the 'Users' and 'Groups' tabs and select 'Groups'. This will list all the groups the system knows about.
3. Scroll down the list and find 'transmission'. Double click on this line.
4. This brings up a dialog box that has two tabs: 'Group Data' and 'Group Users'. Select 'Group Users'.
5. Scroll down to YOUR user name (or anyone else you want to enable) and select the checkbox next to your name. That adds you to the transmission group.
6. Close the User Manager.
7. You are done!
Now you (or other user) should be allowed to use transmission.
Does that help?
