I found the problem. I decided that perhaps a reboot would put things back into shape (like it often does with windows)... and now the server will not boot - it bombs out of the loading stating there are filesystem errors and suggests running fschk (or whatever) and that fails too.
I guess I have to re-install? Is this a common problem?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Brian

Re: cannot save ".eml" files on amahi shares
Heh.. there's no such Linux tool as "or whatever"t bombs out of the loading stating there are filesystem errors and suggests running fschk (or whatever)
It'll probably be asking you for the root password or to press Control-D to continue (where you will continue on to failure, should you choose this option), give it the root password and enter the following:
Code: Select all
ls -la /dev/sd*
Code: Select all
fsck -y /dev/sda1
Code: Select all
fsck -y /dev/sda2
(This assumes your boot drive is /dev/sda. If you're on older equipment it might show up as /dev/hda, in which case adjust to suit.)
What this does is a File System ChecK, with the option -y telling to assume "yes, fix everything you can."
Once all the partitions have fsck'd, you can either go Control-D to continue booting, or you can type reboot and press enter to do a fresh restart.
Re: cannot save ".eml" files on amahi shares
Fellas,
thanks for the continued help.
It appears that the partitions with amahi are lvm and fsck does not work. I've wasted the past few hours trying everything that I found in forms and have gone back to square 1. My system is a triple boot Win Xp / Win 7 / Amahi, so the first 3 partitions relate to Windows. sda3 appears to fsck fine.
Ok, so when I try to run fsck on the linux partitions I get:
#fsck /dev/sda4
fsck .ext2: attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/sda4
could this be a zero-length partition?
#fsck /dev/sda5
fsck: fsck.LVM2_member: not found
fsck: Error 2 while executing fsck.LVM2_member for /dev/sda5
What next?
thanks for the continued help.

Re: cannot save ".eml" files on amahi shares
I've known only some programs for resolving such troubles. But one of the best is the next utility which is able to work out almost any trouble associated with ms outlook express - outlook express dbx corrupted.
