can't access drive after reinstalling ubuntu.
The file manager say I do not have permissions to access the drive. In the Amahi Control panel under storage, I can see the drive and it has about 50 GB of data on it.
EDIT. The Drive is on a USB dock

Re: can't access drive after reinstalling ubuntu
Did you mount it? The OS may see it, but not be mounted.
USB drives have to be mounted like second hard drives using hda-diskmount. You can make it permanent as well following the wiki guidance.

Re: can't access drive after reinstalling ubuntu
According to Disk Utility it is mounted. I had the same setup of drives as I had before I reinstalled; 3 x 1 TB Satas and the 80 GB on the usb dock.
Re: can't access drive after reinstalling ubuntu
I downloaded diskinternal Linux reader. I copied all the files onto a Windows 7 machine. Now I'll try to reformat the 80 GB drive in Ubuntu
Re: can't access drive after reinstalling ubuntu
I would recommend you unmount the drive, then run hda-diskmount. That will give it a home with the other shares and drives.
This may help as well.

Re: can't access drive after reinstalling ubuntu
I copied the files over to Windows and formatted the old drive as NTFS. I then connected it via a USB dock. It shows up in DiskUtilit in Linux. I reformatted it as NTFS to be sure it was accessible to Linux. Everything works. No Terminal fiddling required
